Most frequent questions and answers

How Do I Get Paid?

Invoices for online tutoring need to be sent each month end, and payment will be sent on the first working day of the following month, i.e. the invoice sent on the 30th of September will be paid on the 1st of October.

How Available Do I Need to Be?

Each tutor is a self-employed sub-contractor to Twoition Ltd and, therefore, can choose their availability. Some of our tutors have only one student, and others have more than 10. Some tutors teach only once or twice a week to fit around a full-time career, whereas others teach 25+ hours per week. You are free to set your hours and availability to fit your lifestyle.

What Technology Do I Need to Tutor Online?

You will need a good-specification desktop or laptop computer, a fast and reliable internet connection, and a working webcam and microphone. An essential requirement is a graphics tablet to be able to use an interactive whiteboard.

Will I Be Guaranteed Work?

No. Work will become available once a customer has enquired about you via our online tutor website. You are then free to decide if you have the availability to begin teaching the new student.

What Qualifications Do I Need to Online Tutor?

You must have studied and qualified at least one level above the level you want to teach. For Example, you must have studied and passed A-Level biology to teach biology GCSE. Teaching qualifications such as PGCE and QTS are preferred but not essential.

Do I Need to Do a Self-Assessment?

Yes. All online tutors are self-employed sub-contractors and must provide HMRC with a self-assessment even if they have a full-time job. You can complete the form declaring all your earnings on the HMRC website.

What Platform Do I Need to Teach On?

It is up to you which platform you are most comfortable using for online tutoring. We recommend staying with the more prominent names such as ZOOM, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet to ensure easy access for the pupil.
